BRIDGEPORT -- The Mountain East Conference has released its All-MEC Academic Teams and the Commissioner's Honor Roll for the Fall of 2016 semester.
To be a member of the All-MEC Academic Team, the student-athlete must be a member of the active roster and have a grade-point average of 3.70-4.00 in the semester of their championship season. To qualify for the Commissioner's Honor Roll, a student-athlete must be a member of the active roster and post a grade point average between 3.25-3.69 in the semester of their championship season.
Over 800 student-athletes were honored by the MEC, including nearly 400 who earned All-MEC Academic Team honors in the nine sports included.
The fall sports included football, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's golf, men's and women's soccer, women's tennis and volleyball.
West Virginia Wesleyan had 135 student-athletes recognized by the MEC. That was the highest number of student-athletes honored among the 12 MEC schools.
The 135 student-athletes was an increase of 20 for Wesleyan which had the most student-athetes honored last season on both lists.
The University of Charleston had the second most with 116.
Wesleyan had 67 student-athletes recognized on the All-MEC Academic Team requiring a 3.70-4.00 grade point average. That is an increase of nine student-athletes from last season.
The breakdown of each sport with a 3.70 or higher was women's soccer (19), men's soccer (13), women's cross country (8), football (7), women's tennis (6), volleyball (5), men's cross country (4), men's golf (3) and women's golf (2).
Sixty-eight Wesleyan student-athletes were named to the Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll for a grade-point-average between a 3.25 and a 3.69.
The breakdown of the Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll was football (15), women's soccer (15), volleyball (11), men's soccer (10), men's cross country (5), women's cross country (4), women's golf (3), women's tennis (3) and men's golf (2).
The totals for all nine Wesleyan athletic teams were – women's soccer (34), men's soccer (23), football (22), volleyball (16), women's cross country (12), men's cross county (9), women's tennis (9), men's golf (5) and women's golf (5).
