WVWC Salvages Doubleheader Split Against Rams

The Wesleyan baseball team bounced back from a 4-1 defeat in game one of Tuesday's doubleheader with a 4-2 win to earn a series split.

The Rams notched the first run of the afternoon with a single run in the top of the first in game one. Wesleyan responded in the bottom of the second with a run of its own as a Gary Williams sacrifice fly pushed Aaron Wiegel home.

Shepherd regained the lead in the top of the fourth with a run and added a run apiece in the sixth and seventh to take home the 4-1 win.

The Rams belted out ten hits for the game compared to five for Wesleyan. Shepherd survived two errors while the Bobcats played a spotless game in the field.

Mark Darlington and Zach Miller each finished with a team high two hits. Gene Franks contributed the final hit.

Ross Ware suffered the defeat on the mound over 5.2 innings of work. Ware allowed three runs on eight hits while striking out five. Nathan Gainer finished out the final 1.1 innings.

In the second game, both teams put one run on the board in the first inning. The Bobcat run came on a passed ball that advanced Ryan Lewicki home.

The Wesleyan bats exploded in the bottom of the second for three runs to grab a 4-1 advantage. Miller singled in Cy Mozingo, Wiegel scored on a fielder's choice by Lewicki and Miller recorded the final run on a Franks sacrifice fly.

The Rams managed one run in the top of the sixth but could not climb any closer as the Bobcats held on for the 4-2 win.

Wesleyan outhit Shepherd 8-6 but committed the lone error of the game. Mozingo and Wiegel each had two hits to lead the way. Chipping in with a hit apiece were Lewicki, Franks and Darlington.

Aaron Adams (pictured) earned the win with a complete game performance on the mound. Adams gave up one earned run on six hits and struck out four.

With the split, Wesleyan moves to 22-16 on the season and 14-11 in WVIAC play. The Bobcats will next be in action on April 7 at Alderson-Broaddus.
