JOHNSTOWN, W.Va. – Pitt.-Johnstown and Wesleyan split a pair of pitcher's duels on Tuesday evening at Point Stadium. The Bobcats took game one 3-2, while the Mountain Cats took game two 3-2.
In game one, UPJ took a 1-0 lead in the first on a fielder's choice. Tom Brunswick knotted the game at 1-1 with a RBI single in the third, and later scored on a single by Matt Edwards to put Wesleyan on top 2-1. WVWC extended the lead to 3-1 after back-to-back doubles by Edwards and Ryan Lewicki. Pitt.-Johnstown scored one in the seventh, but Chris Stein ended the game with a strikeout.
Casey Defibaugh tossed six strong innings, giving up two runs on a pair of hits with one strikeout and four walks. Stein earned the save after allowing one hit and striking out one in an inning of work.
In game two, Wesleyan went in front 1-0 following a RBI single from Spencer Webley in the second inning. A Bobcat error tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom half of the inning. UPJ strung together three hits in the fourth to plate a pair of runs and take a 3-1 lead. The Bobcats tallied a run in the fifth on a RBI single by Edwards, but UPJ held on for the 3-2 win.
Zach Oliver was tagged with the loss, tossing 5.1 innings, surrendering three runs (two earned) on six hits with a strikeout and a walk. Stein hurled the last two-thirds of an inning, yielding one hit and striking out two.
The Bobcats host Davis & Elkins in the final regular season contests of 2013 beginning on Saturday.
