BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – Davis & Elkins took both ends of a doubleheader against Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon. The losses ended the Bobcats' chance to make the WVIAC tournament. D&E posted a 14-0 win in game one and followed it up with a 5-1 victory in game two.
In game one, the Senators scored two in the first and one in the third, before breaking the game open with a seven run fourth inning. D&E added a single run in the sixth and three in the seventh to set the 14-0 margin.
Aaron Adams was tagged for the loss, after allowing 10 runs (four earned) on 12 hits while striking out four and walking two in four innings of work. James Gainer allowed one run and struck out one in two innings on the hill. Seth Corwin gave up three unearned runs in one inning.
In game two, Davis & Elkins put up four runs in the first to take a 4-0 lead. Spencer Webley drove in a run in the third to make the score 4-1. D&E added one in the seventh to seal the 5-1 win.
Andrew Ornes got the start, but lasted only two-thirds of an inning, surrendering four runs on two hits while walking a pair. Nick Benges tossed 4.2 scoreless innings, giving up just two hits, while striking out four and walking a pair. Chris Stein hurled the final 1.2 innings, allowing one run on three hits, with one strikeout and a walk.
Wesleyan will look to close out the season with a win on Sunday against Davis & Elkins. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.
