Baseball 'Cats Open Season at Urbana

URBANA (Ohio) – The West Virginia Wesleyan baseball team opened their 2015 season with a pair of losses to Urbana in a Mountain East Conference doubleheader this evening.

The 'Cats dropped the first game by a 5-2 score and lost in the nightcap by a 2-0 score.

Michael Logsdon drove home Tre Kerns with a single in the top of the first to stake the 'Cats to a 1-0 lead.

Urbana chased across three runs in the bottom of the third for a 3-1 lead.

Corey Lynn singled home Nick Jones in the top of the fifth for Wesleyan to close the gap to 3-2.

Urbana put the game away with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Logsdon led the Wesleyan's eight-hit attack with three hits while Kerns had two hits.

Chris Hall suffered the loss on the mound for the 'Cats. He went 2 1/3 innings and gave up two earned runs on two hits.

In the second game, Urbana scored twice in the bottom of the fourth for the only two runs of the contest.

Wesleyan managed just three hits with Jones, Kerns and Wyatt Adkins each getting one.

Brad Brubaker absorbed the loss for Wesleyan in a relief role.

He allowed two earned run on three hits.

Wesleyan (0-2) will stay in Urbana and face them in a doubleheader Monday. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
