WEST LIBERTY – The West Virginia Wesleyan baseball team dropped a pair of games to West Liberty on the road today in Mountain East Conference outings.
Wesleyan was edged in the opener by a 3-2 score and dropped the nightcap by an 8-1 score.
In the opener, Nick Jones drew a walk and later scored on an error to give Wesleyan a quick 1-0 in the top of the first.
West Liberty chased across all three of their runs in the bottom of the second frame. All three runs were unearned.
Wesleyan pushed one run across in the top of the seventh but couldn't get that game-tying run.
Chris Hall started the game for Wesleyan and went four innings and didn't allow an earned run on four hits.
Austin Boam threw two scoreless innings of relief.
West Liberty took control of game two with four runs in the bottom of the third and then tacked on three more in the bottom of the fifth for a 7-0 lead.
Jones drew a walk and later scored on Logsdon's fielder's choice in the top of sixth for Wesleyan's lone run.
West Liberty closed out the scoring with a run in their half of the sixth.
Andrew Omes suffered the loss going four innings. He gave up four earned runs on six hits.
Brad Brubaker tossed the final two innings for Wesleyan.
Wesleyan is now 2-5 overall and 1-5 in the MEC.
They will return to action Sunday when they play West Liberty in another twin bill.
