BRIDGEPORT -- West Virginia Wesleyan's Michael Logsdon has been named Mountain East Conference Player of the Week, while West Liberty's Mark Smyth has earned Pitcher of the Week honors.
Logsdon, a junior first baseman from Bridgeport, W.Va., went 8-for-15 (.533) in a four-game series against Charleston last week. He had two hits in each game, and had a double in three of four games. Logsdon also led the team with eight runs scored.
Smyth, a junior from Bloomingdale, Ohio, fired a two-hit shutout against Concord in MEC play over the weekend. He went the distance allowing just two walks and striking out seven in a 4-0 Hilltopper win.
Other Top Performances: Jonathan Sarty (SU) hit .467 with six RBI in a 5-1 week for the first-place Rams ... T.J. Lett (NDC) had eight hits, half of which went for extra bases, with four RBI and four runs scored ... Pat Ammar (WJU) went 4-for-6 with five RBI in a doubleheader sweep over UVa-Wise on Sunday ... Andy Szamski (CU) batted .529 (9-for-17) with 10 RBI in five games ... Tim Mirandy (WLU) went 10-for-17 and had a team-best five RBI in six games ... Anthony Payne (WVSU) hit .444 with five runs scored and four RBI in a 3-1 week for the Yellow Jackets.
Other Top Pitching Performances: Tyler Thompson (WVSU) had a two-hit complete game shutout against Glenville State ... Zach Gresch (NDC) went 1-1 and did not allow an earned run in 13 innings pitched on the week ... James Gainer (WVWC) had a two-hit shutout with a pair of strikeouts against Charleston ... Justin Fritts (WJU) picked up his third win in four starts giving up one earned run on five hits and striking out eight against UVa-Wise ... Zach Kelly (CU) got his sixth win of the season striking out four in a win over West Liberty ... Jamie Driver (SU) scattered four hits over six innings of work in an 11-0 win over Urbana to improve to 7-2 on the year
