Baseball Team Ends Year With Loss to W. Va. State

BECKLEY – The West Virginia Wesleyan baseball team dropped a 7-0 decision to second seed West Virginia State in day two of the Mountain East Conference Tournament this afternoon in Beckley.

The elimination-game loss to the Yellow Jackets ended the 2015 baseball season for the 'Cats.

They ended the year with a 19-20 record.

West Virginia State three times in the second and third innings to take control of the game. They added their seventh run in the top of the sixth inning.

The Bobcats struggled at the plate recording three hits.

Logan Moneypenny had two hits and Travis Renner had one.

Riley Metz (6-1) suffered the loss for Wesleyan, his first setback of the year.

Metz went 2 1/3 innings and allowed four earned runs on six hits.

During the preseason, Wesleyan was picked to finish ninth in the conference, however ultimately nabbed the sixth seed going into tournament play.
