PARKERSBURG – The West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcat baseball team won their last non-conference game of the season as they took a 7-3 decision from Ohio Valley today at Bennett Stump Field.
The win gives the 'Cats a sweep of Ohio Valley as they defeated them by a 12-6 score back on March 17.
The victory gave coach Brett Ripley and his squad a 9-13 record.
Ripley used the same game plan this time as he did in the first meeting with Ohio Valley with his pitching staff, allowing six pitchers to get work in the non-conference clash.
Bobby Ornes was the second pitcher used by Ripley and picked up the win.
He upped his record to 2-0 as he twirled two innings and didn't allow a run while striking out two.
Ohio Valley scored a run in the bottom of the first inning for an early 1-0 lead.
The Bobcats chased across three unearned runs in the top of the fourth as they capitalized on a pair of Ohio Valley errors.
Antonio Vega had a one-run single in the top of the eighth inning to increase their lead to 6-1 lead.
The Bobcats made it 7-1 in the eighth when Koon hit a sacrifice fly that scored Greg Smith.
Ohio Valley scored two unearned in the bottom of the ninth to wrap up the scoring.
Wesleyan had seven hits in the contest Tre Kerns leading the way with two hits.
The Bobcats will return to Hank Ellis Field this Friday when they host Notre Dame for a Mountain East Conference doubleheader.
First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
