BUCKHANNON – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released its NCAA Division II Regional Players of the Week awards for the week ending on March 26.
West Virginia Wesleyan senior outfielder John Koon was chosen as the Atlantic Region Player of the Week.
The Bridgeport, W. Va. native earned regional honors after hitting .533 (16-for-30) in eight games for the Bobcats last week. He drove in 13 runs and belted four home runs on the week, including a walk-off shot against Wheeling Jesuit. Koon had at least one hit in all eight contests, and had five multi-hit games.
Koon was also named the Mountain East Conference Player of the Week.
Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates and official votes in the Howser Award Player of the Year, Regional Player of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA also sponsors preseason All-America awards, publication and writing contests.
