Michael Anderson Named MEC Offensive Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT -- Michael Anderson (West Virginia Wesleyan), Nick Lopez (Glenville State) and Brandon Purk have earned Mountain East Conference Player of the Week honors for their play in the third week of the season.

Anderson, a senior from Elkridge, Md., is the Offensive Player of the Week after scoring four touchdowns and helping the Bobcats to their first win of the season on Saturday over West Virginia State. Anderson toted the ball 29 times for 155 yards and three scores, and added three catches for 41 yards and another score. 

Lopez, a sophomore from Martinsburg, W.Va., is the MEC Defensive Player of the Week after tying an MEC record with three interceptions against Charleston. Lopez also had three tackles in the game for the Pioneers. He picked off two passes in the second quarter alone returning them 26 yards, and then his third of the day in the fourth quarter to help the Pioneers hold off Charleston, 35-28, and move to 3-0 on the year.

Purk, a sophomore from Mechanicsburg, Ohio, is the MEC Special Teams Player of the Wek after delivering key punts in the second half to help Urbana get by Concord, 21-15. Purk had a pair of 50-yard boots, including a long of 57, both coming in the second half of play. With UU leading 21-15 late in the fourth quarter, Purk's punt forced Concord to take over at its own eight-yard line with just under three minutes to play giving the Blue Knights a significant advantage in field position. For the day Purk averaged 42 yards on six attempts and had two inside the 20-yard line.

Offense: Trevon Saunders (UU) had two of Urbana's three TDs, including the game-winner, and finished with seven catches for 73 yards ... Jeff Ziemba (SU) was 21-of-28 for 355 and four touchdowns as the Rams rolled past UVa-Wise ... Malik Grove (NDC) had four TD passes to go with 214 yards, and also added 94 rushing yards ... D.J. Williams (GSC) caught five passes for 147 yards and three touchdowns ... he also hauled in the game-winning TD with 25 seconds left ... Terrell Charles (FSU) had 22 carries for 85 yards and a pair of scores ... Jermeil Douse (CU) registered 10 catches for 166 yards and two TDS ... Dan Monteroso caught four balls for 118 yards and two touchdowns ... 
Defense: Marcus Porter (FSU) had 14 tackles (nine solo) and forced a fumble late in the fourth quarter that helped set up FSU's game-winning drive ... Carlton Rematt (UU) had 10 total tackles as the Blue Knights picked up their first win of the season ... Onslow Williams (NDC) led the squad with 12 tackles and broke up a pass ... Tre Sullivan (SU) led the Rams defense with 10 tackles and also added a pass breakup and blocked a kick ... Kevin Pharaon (WVWC) had eight tackles including one sack ... Dominic Wilson (CU) had a team-high nine tackles.
Special Teams: Earon Settles (GSC) had a pair of tackles on special teams to go with an interception against the Golden Eagles ... Marvelle Ross (NDC) had a key 59-yard punt return in the second quarter in NDC's win over Malone ... Tavaris Anderson (WVWC) averaged 56.6 yards on two kickoff returns ... Garrett Lee (CU) averaged 48.2 yards per punt against Urbana.
