Bobcats Top Battlers in OT, 72-66
BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – Five scorers tallied double figures to boost Wesleyan past A-B in overtime action on Thursday night, 72-66.
Kelsey Williams notched a double-double for Wesleyan (14 points, 10 rebounds). Also netting double figures for the Bobcats were Mike Washington (16), Raymont McElroy (14), Colby Wohlleb (13) and Reggie Chambers (10).
Nate Barnes (18), Casey Ainslie (16), Kurklin Bohannon (14) and Roy Brown (12) all registered double figures for the Battlers.
The first half saw 11 lead changes with a pair of ties and neither team leading by more than four. The teams went to the locker room deadlocked at 21-21. WVWC held a 22-16 advantage on the glass in the first 20 minutes, but were plagued by 13 turnovers to A-B's nine. The Battlers stayed in the game, going 7-of-9 at the charity stripe in the first half--compared to just 2-of-5 for Wesleyan.
Wohlleb hit a pair of threes early in the second half as part of a 10-2 Wesleyan run to grab a 41-31 advantage. The Battlers answered with a 13-5 jolt to close the gap to 46-44; A-B hit a trio of threes to spark the run. A-B had an 8-0 sprint to snatch a 57-55 lead with just over one minute to play. A Chambers lay-up with 28 seconds again tied the game, this time at 59-59. The Battlers' three attempt was blocked, then Chambers' shot from half-court at the buzzer wouldn't fall, sending the game into overtime.
Wesleyan scored 13 of the 20 points in the extra session to claim the 72-66 victory.
The Bobcats move to 10-6 on the year and 6-6 in league play. Wesleyan returns to action on Saturday as they welcome Davis & Elkins at 4 p.m.
