Civic Center Still Main Stage

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- The Charleston Civic Center will be the site of the 2014 Mountain East Conference Men's and Women's Basketball Tournament, Commissioner Reid Amos announced today.

Following opening round games at campus sites on Tuesday, March 4, the tournament then moves to the Charleston Civic Center on Thursday, March 6 with women's quarterfinals action, and conclude with the men's and women's finals on Sunday, March 9.

"We are very pleased to announce this partnership with the City of Charleston, the Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Charleston Civic Center," Amos said. "I am confident that our close collaboration with the CVB will lead to a first-class tournament experience for our student-athletes and fans.  We have every expectation that the quality of basketball in the MEC will be second to none in NCAA Division II, and we are looking forward to putting that on display at the Charleston Civic Center."

"The Charleston CVB is excited for the opportunity to host the inaugural Mountain East Basketball Championships," said Tim Brady, vice president of sales and services for the Charleston CVB. "This tournament will have a significant economic impact on the city of Charleston. We're grateful that the MEC chose Charleston for these historic championships.

"Our brand is 'Hip, Historic...Almost Heaven,' Brady continued. "In keeping with this brand promise, we're committed to partnering with the MEC to make these championships an event, not just a basketball tournament. We want to raise the bar on the fan experience, as well as the experience for the student-athletes. We're looking forward to four days of championship caliber basketball and first-class family entertainment."

The Mountain East Conference will release its men's and women's basketball preseason polls on Monday, Nov. 4, at the league's media day at the Bridgeport Conference Center.
