Bobcat Men Sweep Puerto Rico

Buckhannon, W.Va. – The West Virginia Wesleyan Men's Basketball team snagged two victories in Puerto Rico before Christmas Break improving their record to 7-5, 2-2 in the Mountain East.  Their first victory was against UPR Bayamon Vaqueros where the Bobcats earned the 76-54 win then turned around and defeated UPR Rio-Piedras 70-43 the next evening.

In the Bobcats first tilt, it was T.J. Thompson that led the way scoring 19 points while Chris Dewberry was not too far behind tallying 18 of his own on 5-7 shooting from behind the arc.  Two other Bobcats would find double digits, Taylor Price and Garrett Grantham both added 10 to the 76 point total.  The Bobcats picked right back up in the second game senior T. J. Thompson would again lead all scorers with 22, going 4-7 from three and 4-4 from the free throw line.  Following T.J. in the scoring category was sophomore Tanner McGrew as he added 13 points to his six rebounds.  Just two rebounds shy of a double-double, freshman Aleksandar Djordjevic contributed 10 points and a team high eight rebounds.

The Bobcats return home to face the Golden Eagles of Charleston this Saturday afternoon at 4pm in Rockefeller Center.  The Men's contest will follow the Lady Bobcats at 2pm.  Despite the time lapse, Wesleyan enters on a high note, winning five of their last six with their only loss coming at the hands of Alderson-Broaddus at Rex Pyles Arena before the team took to Puerto Rico.

The second part of the season, particularly January, will test the mental and physical efforts of the Bobcats.  All remaining contests are verse quality MEC opponents where Wesleyan will play six of the nine games in January on the road.  After hosting the Golden Eagles the Bobcats will start their first stint, traveling for three of their next four battles only to host the MEC pre-season favorites and National powerhouse West Liberty Hilltoppers.   February will even out for the 'Cats as they will see four home and four away contests only to finish home March 1st verse Glenville State.   By then the scene will be set for the first MEC Tournament.
