West Liberty, W.Va. – The West Virginia Wesleyan College Basketball teams were handed a pair of road losses Thursday evening at the hands of conference powerhouses, the West Liberty Hilltoppers. The Women suffered a 75-57 defeat while the mean were dished out a 77-61 loss.
Eleven first half three's for the Lady Hilltoppers would provide the 17 point halftime lead they would carry over and use in securing the victory over the Lady Bobcats. Two Bobcats, Kacey Johnson and Allie Browne would reach double figures and Brittany Williams and KiKi DeVane would barely miss out on double-double's, however, the Lady Hilltoppers were just too much in the 77-57 win.
The Wesleyan Men would find themselves in a 13 point hole, 33-20, after only connecting on six field goals in the first half. Senior T.J. Thompson would explode for 18 of his team high 20 points in the second half but continued a woeful shooting streak in the first half. With his 20 points, he eclipses the 1,000 point mark as he needed just 13 to join the elite list of Bobcats. Adding 18 of his own would be senior Brett Ervin while Tanner McGrew added 10 points and seven boards off the bench. Despite more than doubling their first half output in the second, it was still not enough to pull the 'Cats back as the final buzzer sounded at 77-61.
Wesleyan will return home this Saturday as they host Wheeling Jesuit. Women tip at 2:00pm and the Men follow.
