McGrew Named Honorable Mention All-American by The Sporting News

BUCKHANNON – Senior forward Tanner McGrew (Buckhannon, W. Va.) of the West Virginia Wesleyan men's basketball team has been named an Honorable Mention preseason All-American by The Sporting News.

McGrew is coming off a junior season in which he collected First-Team All-Mountain East Conference honors. He finished first in the conference in rebounding (12.4) by a huge margin and was first in double-doubles with 16. He was also eighth in the conference in scoring, averaging 16.0 points per game.

Nationally, he was fifth in rebounds per game and eighth in double-doubles.

"Tanner has put the numbers up and put in the performances that indicates he is an All-American caliber player," remarked Wesleyan head coach Gary Nottingham. "The key this year is now people know who he is. If he can perform at a high level I think that it will be very beneficial for him as a senior for his potential career opportunities.

"Anytime you get national recognition, it is a good thing. I can't say I am surprised by the honor. He had a fantastic junior season. His numbers indicate he should receive this type of honor."

Wesleyan will begin their 2015-16 season this Friday at the Retton Classic in Fairmont. They will face Shaw at 2:30 p.m.
