SALEM – Chris Dewberry (pictured) fired in a game-high 24 points and Tanner McGrew recorded his second straight double-double scoring 18 points and grabbing a game-high 21 rebounds as West Virginia Wesleyan eased past Salem International 74-62 today in a road non-conference game.
Wesleyan's five starters scored all of Wesleyan's 74 points.
In a back-and-fourth first half, neither team could build a lead bigger than three points until Dewberry canned a three-pointer before the half ended to give Wesleyan a 32-26 lead.
Wesleyan pushed that lead to 10 to start the second half when McGrew made a lay-up and Berchie made a short jumper to give Wesleyan a 36-26 advantage.
A pair of Berchie free throws improved Wesleyan's lead to 12, at 44-32, with five minutes gone in the second half.
Salem outscored Wesleyan by an 18-12 margin over the next nine minutes to cut the Bobcat lead to six, at 56-50, but Salem was never able to overtake Wesleyan on the scoreboard.
Wesleyan outscored Salem the rest of the way by six to settle in for a 12-point win.
Wesleyan improved to 4-1 on the season while Salem dropped to 1-3.
The Bobcats will return to action this Monday when they host Davis & Elkins in their home opener at 7 p.m.
