BUCKHANNON – West Virginia Wesleyan's Bobcats put five players in double figures as they eased past Urbana by a 77-59 score in a Mountain East Conference clash tonight at Rockefeller Center.
Soren Dossing just missed reach double digits with nine points.
Grantham opened the scoring with a jumper but Carlas Jackson responded with a three-pointer for Urbana.
It was the only lead of the night for Urbana.
Johnson made two free throws and Welty canned a jumper to give Wesleyan a 6-3 advantage.
After Urbana made it a 6-5 game Wesleyan went on an 8-0 run.
Johnson made a jumper, Berchie made a couple of free throws and Grantham made consecutive baskets during the run which put Wesleyan up 14-5 with 12:10 left in the opening half.
A pair of J. R. Kerr free throws gave Wesleyan a 14-point lead, at 23-9, with 7:05 left in the half.
Wesleyan led by 13 at the break – 32-19.
The Bobcats controlled play in the second half.
A Johnson jumper at the 5:56 mark of the final period gave Wesleyan their biggest lead, at 21, 63-42.
The closest Urbana could cut into the lead was at 17 points, 74-57, following a Matt Csuhran lay-up.
Wesleyan ended the game on a 5-2 run.
The Bobcats shot 53 percent from the floor making good on 26 of their 49 field goal attempts.
Wesleyan also owned a 36-26 edge in rebounding.
The Bobcats of head coach Gary Nottingham are now 9-2 overall and 4-1 in the MEC.
Wesleyan will return to action this Wednesday when they host Notre Dame at 7:30 p.m.
