URBANA, OHIO -- Sophomore Luke Layhew helped increase the Bobcats win streak to four Wednesday night, as Wesleyan defeated Urbana 70-65. The Bobcats got scoring from plenty of options as four players got into double digits. After heading into the half at a three-point deficit, Coach Jack Meriwether's squad battled and sealed the game going 4-of-4 from the foul line with under 30 seconds to play.
Layhew added 9 rebounds to his team high 17 points, providing a solid effort from the Ripley native. Sophomore Dusan Vicentic added 12 points, while guard Kam Cooper contributed with eight points and nine rebounds. Wesleyan's defense stepped up in the second half, holding the Blue Knights to 33% (10-of-30) from the field in the last 20 minutes.
For Urbana, Senior Carlas Jackson set the tone on the offense end, leading the team with 20 points. Teammate Malik Jacobs put up 15 point and grabbed six rebounds in the loss.
Wesleyan shot 26-of-54 (48 percent) from the field.
Urbana went 24-of-59 (40 percent) on the night.
With the win, Wesleyan rises to 6-17. Urbana falls to 3-20 on the year.
The Bobcats will take the court this Saturday when they travel to Notre Dame College, tip-off is slated for 4 p.m.
