Ryan Sharbaugh just finished his first season at West Virginia Wesleyan as assistant coach under Jim Boone. The Bobcats finished the season with a school record 22-9 and the program’s first ever NCAA Division II Regional Tournament victory. Sharbaugh operated as the recruiting coordinator this year in addition to handling opponent scouts, post player development, in-game decisions, video editing and exchange, as well as non-conference game scheduling.
Sharbaugh helped lead the Bobcats to their first twenty-win-season since 1991 as well as WVIAC league bests in defensive scoring (65.1 ppg), defensive field goal percentage (.412) and defensive 3pt field goal percentage (.322). He helped produce two All-Atlantic-Region award winners in Kelsey Williams (17.4 ppg, 8.7 rpg) and Raymont McElroy (21.7 ppg). Raymont was also awarded All-America Honorable Mention.
Prior to coming to West Virginia Wesleyan, Sharbaugh coached two seasons at California University of Pennsylvania as a graduate assistant under Coach Bill Brown. During his time at California PA (2009-2011), the Vulcans compiled 33 wins including a PSAC playoff appearance. Under Coach Brown, Sharbaugh’s responsibilities included opponent scouts, post player development, film editing and exchange, academic monitoring, and travel and meal arrangements. Sharbaugh also played a crucial role in the success of Cal’s summer youth camp as co-director. Before entering the college level, Sharbaugh spent one year as an assistant at the Summit Academy in Herman, PA while working as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor.
He graduated from Westminster (PA) in 2008 with a degree in psychology. During his time at Westminster he coached three years at his alma matter Wilmington Area School District, New Wilminton, PA. He received his master’s degree in Sport Management with an emphasis in Sport Counseling from Cal U PA and is also pursuing a second master’s degree in School Counseling.
