Bobcat Golf Team Wins Battle of the Virginias

BLUEFIELD, Va. – The West Virginia Wesleyan men's golf team captured a tournament victory Monday, winning the one-day, 36-hole Battle of the Virginia's Tournament at the Fincastle Country Club in Bluefield, Va.

There were six teams in the event.

Wesleyan put all five of their players in the top 12 individuals of the 34-player tournament. The Bobcats rode a quality second round to post the win.

"It was really cold out there today, and we had some wind and rain," Wesleyan assistant coach Sidney Crist said. "Plus the course was really hard, so that was indicated in the scores."

Nick West led the Bobcat victory, placing second overall (83-77-160), followed by Nicholas Casingal in fourth (85-78-163).

Freshman Colin Chapman continued his strong early season play placing fifth (82-82-164), giving the 'Cats three players in the top five.

James Snavely rounded out the scoring placing 11th (87-83-170). Zach Chapman was close behind in 12th (87-84-171).

Coach Crist was with the men in Bluefield, while head coach J.D. Lamm was with the women in Erie, Pa.

Wesleyan's men return to action on Sept. 25-26 at the Wally Edgell Collegiate Championship at Canaan Valley Resort.
