BUCKHANNON -- The West Virginia Wesleyan men's soccer team is celebrating a very special anniversary this year.
For 20 years now, the program has been participating in the State of West Virginia's "Adopt-a-Highway" program.
Long-time head coach Gavin Donaldson began the project in 1997, and his team's through the years have continued the service tradition.
They began shortly after US Route 33 became a four-lane road on the strip between Buckhannon and Elkins.
"We have a two-mile stretch on Route 33 extending east from Childers Run," Donaldson said. "We go out each year, and work that area on each side of the road, pick all the trash that may be there. It is something we enjoy doing, and something that we want to do for the community."
A blue sign has long sat on the side of the highway, noting Wesleyan Men's Soccer's service to this section of roadway.
