ERIE, Pa. – The third and final day of the ITA Atlantic Regionals was a good one for the West Virginia Wesleyan men's tennis team with a pair of tournament titles.
Laipold's improbable single's run came to a disappointing end with a loss to top-seed Vitor Albanese form Edinboro.
Playing in the playing singles main draw, Laipold lost a 6-3, 6-1 verdict.
Freshman Alexander Lyudinovskiy won the B Draw singles title.
He beat Arseniy Sklyarov of Mercyhurst – 5-7, 6-4, 10-4.
Wesleyan's Pedro Nassar won the B Consolation bracket with an 8-4 win over Edinboro's Thomas McCoy.
"Alex, Lukas and Pierre had a very nice weekend for us considering it was their first ITA and the level was pretty high from the quarterfinals on," remarked head coach Marc Walters."Lukas had a great run in the Main draw singles, and lost to the top seed who was playing very clean all weekend. It was a positive sign for our team this season going into spring."
The men's team wrapped up their fall play with the ITA Regionals.
They will have a two-day exhibition on Oct. 7-8 at home in the Black & Orange scrimmage.
