'Cats Selected Second in MEC Men's Tennis Preseason Poll

BRIDGEPORT -- The West Liberty Hilltoppers have been selected to win the 2017 Mountain East Conference men's tennis title.

The Hilltoppers finished atop the poll with 48 points, including six-first place selections. WLU went 17-6 last year and won a share of the league regular season title before claiming its second-straight conference tournament championship. Coach Sam McCullough's team also earned a berth into the NCAA Tournament in 2016.

West Virginia Wesleyan was picked to finish second with 44 points and had the remaining two first-place votes. The Bobcats also earned a share of the regular season title and earned an NCAA Tournament berth.

Charleston was selected third (37 points), followed by Fairmont State in fourth (29 points). 

Shepherd and UVa-Wise tied for fifth with 22 points, and Concord and West Virginia State tied for seventh with 11 points.
