BUCKHANNON -- This Thursday and Friday (March 24-25), West Virginia Wesleyan will be hosting the annual Bobcat Kickoff Classic.
Thursday's session will just be day one of the multis, featuring athletes from Wesleyan, Glenville State, West Liberty and some unattached athletes from Fairmont State.
The men's side will include an all-star cast of athletes that have been scorers in the MEC in several events in the past; West Liberty's senior George Maddox, Wesleyan sophomore Neil Scherich, and the Glenville duo of Dustin Martin and Ryan Gregory. Martin was the indoor leader among MEC multis this winter.
In Friday's session- several former Bobcat assistants will be here with their teams.
This includes the teams from Bethany, Davis & Elkins, and Glenville.
Bethany is coming off their second consecutive men's indoor track title in the President's Athletic Conference. Several athletes from that title run will be competing for the Bison, under the tutelage of head track coach Andy Upton (former Wesleyan sprint coach) and head cross country coach Michael Guinn (also a former WVWC assistant).
For the Bobcats, several athletes are currently leading the MEC Performance List.
This includes on the men's side; Nicholas Moorhead (shot put), Tyler Donati (javelin), Dylon Rippeto (discus), Isaac Johnson (hammer), Daniel Plaugher (110 hurdles), and Tavaris Anderson (long jump and triple jump).
On the women's side; Lauren Cvechko (long jump and heptathlon), Jordan Tate (high jump), Ali Crawford (100-hurdles and 200), Vicki Crise (400-hurdles), Sydney Pineault (steeplechase) and the 4x100 relay team of Crawford, Makenzi Neibergall, Georgia Sim, and Mykera Days.
Thursday's multi events go off at 1 p.m. - Friday's multi session begins at 9 a.m., with the regular session starting at 10 a.m.
This will be the first competition in the newly renovated Wesleyan track facility.
