Indoor Track and Field Teams Open Season at Denison

GRANVILLE, Ohio – It may have been their first meet of the year, but the West Virginia Wesleyan men's and women's indoor track and field teams left their mark in the Denison University Lid-Lifter Saturday afternoon.

Both the men and the women's teams were victorious in the 11-team meet.

The men compiled 125 points while Wittenberg was a distant second with 78 points and host Denison was third with 75.

On the women's side, they won going away with 166.5 points while Denison was second with 93 and California (Pa). was third with 81 points.

The Bobcats won three of the 16 events.

Dylan Rippeto won the shot put with a heave of 14.18 meters.

Wesleyan also picked up a third-place finish in the shot put with a Nicholas Moorhead toss of 13.86 and Alex Eye was sixth with a toss of 12.96.

Tavaris Anderson won the long jump with a leap of 6.64 meters.

Neil Scherich claimed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 6.21 meters.

Wesleyan's third win came in the 60-meter hurdles, which turned out to be the Bobcats' best event on the afternoon. The Bobcats picked up 24 points in the event.

Daniel Plaugher won the race with a time of 8.31.

Niles Dailey took second with a time of 8.36 and Nate Moore was third with a clocking of 8.36.

Other top performances for the men included Anderson earning second in the 200-meter dash (22.93) and taking third in the 60-meter dash (7.06), Craig Westfall taking second in the 800-meter run (2:03.67) and Isiah Robinson placing fourth in the 800-meter run (2:04.85), Austin Hayes placing second in the 3000-meter run (9:21.26) and Ian Frailey running seventh in the 300-meter run (9:37.06), Adam Fox taking fifth in the high jump (1.73 meters), Hunter LeMasters taking third in the pole vault (4.25 meters) and Fox placing fourth in the pole vault (4.10 meters) and Isaac Johnson earning third in the weight throw (13.23 meters) and Dalton Kittle taking fifth in the weight throw (12.94).

Like the men, the Lady Bobcats earned two wins – one individual and one relay.

Lauren Cvechko won the long jump with a leap of 5.19 meters.

The 4 x 200 relay foursome of Marlee Angelucci, Caylee Painter, Karissa Poe and Jordyn Bush won their event with a time of 1.52.58.

Including the Cvechko win in the long jump, Ali Allen was second (5.15), Anja Beckmann was fourth (4.89) and Zoei Kirk was sixth (4.61) as Wesleyan picked up 26 points.

Wesleyan's performers in the 60-meter hurdles compiled 24 points.

Cvechko was second (9.41), Lauren Leaman was third (9.64), Jordan Lynn was fourth (9.66), Erica Jack was fifth (9.83) and Audrey Barber was eighth (10.03).

The Lady Bobcats also picked up 23 points in the high jump as Joy Price was second (1.57), Brielle Coles was third (1.47), Beckmann was fourth (1.47) Paxton Winston was fifth (1.47) and Savannah Teter was seventh (1.37).

Other top Wesleyan performances in the 60-meters included Painter taking fourth (8.09), Mykera Days sixth (8.10) and Cassidy McCullough seventh (8.19); in the 200-meter dash Days was fourth (27.37) and Painter was sixth (27.54); in the 400-meter run Lauren Blake was seventh (1:04.38); in the 800-meter run Emma Harrison was third 2:31.92 and Lexi Beach was fifth (2:35.86); in the 3000-meter run Rachael Englund was fifth (11:24.58), Rachel Pinto was sixth (11:34.59) and Zoey Vilasuso was eighth (11:45.12); in the triple jump Lynn was second (10.49); in the shot put Aiyana Kachmarek was third (10.96) and Cvechko was fourth (10.54) and in the weight throw Kasinda King was sixth (11.77).

Both teams will return to action this Friday and Saturday in the two-day Spire Invitational in Geneva, Ohio.
