XC 'Cats Run Seventh Against Loaded Field at Slippery Rock

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The West Virginia Wesleyan men's cross country team finished seventh at the Mack Cooper Invitational Saturday at Cooper's Lake Campground.

Wesleyan amassed 171 points in a very strong 10-team field.

The race featured seven of the top 10 teams currently ranked in the Atlantic Region, where Wesleyan is ranked 10th. It also featured two Division I Club teams with Pitt and Penn State joining the event.

Shippensburg claimed the team title with a dominating performance with 25 points while host Slippery Rock was runner up with 70 points on their home course.

Aaron Dinzeo from California (Pa.) outlasted 146 runners on the 8,000-meter course to win the event with a time of 24:45. With his time, Dinzeo broke the previous course record of 24:51.

Wesleyan's top runner was Nathan Whitacre who finished 35th with a time of 27:36 while Matt Dearth was the next highest Wesleyan runner placing 37th with a time of 27:42.

Brody Born and Aaron Estep were the next Wesleyan runners to finish. Born was 47th with a time of 28:03 and Estep was 51st with a time of 28:11.

The other Bobcat runner to score was Chad Langanacre who placed 60th with a clocking of 28:46.

The next set of runners crossing the finish line were Marshall Sharp in 62nd (28:48), Wes Stowers in 63rd (28:54), Lucas Young in 66th (29:04) and Sean Snyder in 72nd (29:14).

Wesleyan's next big meet will be the MEC Championships on Nov. 8.
