Softball Dominates All-WVIAC Squad; Young, Perez-Ashley, Warner Honored With Top Awards

The Wesleyan softball team stole the show with the release of the All-WVIAC Teams on Monday afternoon. The Bobcats placed a conference high six members on the All-WVIAC First Team. Earning top honors were Kashilia Young (pictured) as the Player of the Year, Hillary Perez-Ashley as the Pitcher of the Year, and heach coach Steve Warner as Coach of the Year.

Young became the ninth Bobcat to earn Player of the Year honors while Perez-Ashley became the seventh Wesleyan player to take home Pitcher of the Year honors. For Warner, it was his 13th time being selected as Coach of the Year.

Joining Young and Perez-Ashley on the squad were Shelby Carlson, Dana Goguen, Stephanie St. Peter and Alex Whisner.

Young recorded a .359 batting average on the year to go along with 19 home runs and 64 RBI. Young tops the WVIAC in slugging percentage (.772), runs scored (47), RBI (64), home runs (19) and total bases (129).

Perez-Ashley notched a record of 23-1 with a 2.39 ERA in her first season wearing the orange and black. Perez-Ashley tossed four shut outs and fanned 170 batters in 150.2 innings of work.

Carlson earned her third All-WVIAC selection after hitting .353 with 33 runs scored and 17 RBI. Carlson continued her base stealing ways in 2011 with 14 steals in 15 attempts.

Goguen is one of Wesleyan's top long ball hitters, blasting ten home runs to place third on the team. Goguen carries a batting average of .344 with 26 runs scored and 42 RBI.

St. Peter is in the midst of her third full season behind the plate for the Bobcats. St. Peter has a .345 batting average with 25 runs scored and 44 RBI.

Whisner turned in another solid performance with a team leading .363 average at the plate. Whisner has crossed the plate 45 times, has accounted for 41 RBI and went a perfect 13-13 in stolen base attempts.

For Warner, this marks his second staight Coach of the Year award. In 19 seasons, Warner owns a record of 734-268-1. During his Bobcat coaching career, Wesleyan has won 17 regular season titles and 15 tournament championships.

The Bobcats are currently 46-6 on the year and are awaiting their NCAA postseason fate.
