FAIRMONT – The 13th-ranked West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcat softball team opened Mountain East Conference play today against the Fairmont State Falcons and the results were two more wins for Wesleyan.
The Lady Bobcats won both games by a 6-1 score.
Brooklyn Waddell gave Wesleyan all the offense they needed in the top of the first with a two-run home.
That gave Wesleyan a 5-0 lead.
Gregory had a one-run single in the top of the sixth inning to increase the Lady Bobcat lead to 6-0.
Fairmont State avoided the shutout with an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh.
Wesleyan had 10 hits in the contest with Waddell, Morgan Bruce and Gregory each collecting two apiece.
Sayaka Foley threw a complete game to improve her record to 6-1. She gave up three hits while striking out 14.
Wesleyan hit three home runs in the nightcap.
Waggoner smacked a one-run single in the top of the second and the fourth to give Wesleyan a 2-0 lead.
Fairmont State hit a home run in the bottom of the fourth to make it a 2-1 game.
Waddell hit a solo home run in the top of the fifth and then Gregory hit a solo shot in the top of the sixth to increase the Lady Bobcat lead to 4-1.
Wesleyan had 10 hits in the second outing as well with Eggleston, Waddell, Waggoner and Gregory each getting two apiece.
Hannah Vet upped her record to 6-1 as she twirled a complete game three-hitter. She walked one and fanned nine.
Wesleyan (22-2) will host Concord Saturday for a pair of games starting at 2 p.m.
