Eggleston Throws Five-Inning No-Hitter Against Pioneers

GLENVILLE – The 12th-ranked West Virginia Wesleyan softball team picked up two more victories today on the road at Glenville State in a Mountain East Conference doubleheader.

The Lady 'Cats won game one by a 6-1 score and then dominated the second game, 11-0 in five innings.

Wesleyan upped their record to 33-5 overall and 15-3 in the MEC.

In game one, Wesleyan grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when Olivia Gore doubled home Rebekah Honce.

Glenville State tied the game in the bottom of the third with a lone run.

Morgan Bruce hit a three-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to give Wesleyan a 4-1 advantage.

Wesleyan put the game away with two more runs in the top of the seventh.

Bruce laid down a sacrifice bunt that scored Brooklyn Waddell and Carly Gregory hit a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Honce.

Gore was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate while Honce and Krista Waggoner each had three hits.

Hannah Vet improved her record to 14-2 as she pitched a complete game allowing just one earned run on four hits while striking out four.

The outcome of game two was never in doubt as Eggleston walked just one and whiffed four.

Tori Pogue scored on a double steal and Waggoner singled home Eggleston in the top of the first to give Wesleyan a 2-0 lead.

Wesleyan increased their lead to 6-0 in the top of the second.

Waddell had a one-run single, Eggleston scored on a wild pitch and Waggoner had a two-run single to account for the scoring.

Wesleyan wrapped up the scoring with a five-run third inning.

Eggleston had a one-run single, Waddell hit a one-run single and Honce had the big hit, a three-run home run.

Wesleyan pounded out 14 hits in the five inning contest.

Eggleston and Waggoner each had three hits.

Wesleyan will return to action this Saturday as they visit West Liberty for a MEC doubleheader.

First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
