Softball Lady 'Cats Fall to 19th in the Nation

LOUISVILLE – Indianapolis, West Texas A&M and Humboldt State remained in the top three spots in this week's NFCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll, announced by the Association on Wednesday morning.

The Greyhounds (34-1) started the week with three victories as they extended their undefeated mark to 32-0 before having it snapped on the road Saturday. Despite the defeat, Indianapolis continued its hold on the top spot with 12 first-place votes and 396 points.

Following wins over Saint Joseph's (4-2 in 11 inn. / 8-0) and Southern Indiana (2-1), the Greyhounds' streak was snapped by USI in game two of their Great Lakes Valley Conference in Evansville. Indy bounced back with two GLVC wins against Bellarmine (2-0, 9-3).

A road sweep in Lone Star Conference play moved the Lady Buffs to 40-2, the first NCAA program to reach the 40-win plateau in 2016. West Texas A&M, which picked up four first-place votes and 388 points, topped Texas A&M University-Kingsville in four games (6-3, 10-2, 6-2, 3-0) and pushed its conference record to 22-2, nine more wins than its closest competitor.

Backed by a 7-1 week, including a 6-0 mark at the Tournament of Champions, Humboldt State ascended to the 30-win plateau (31-3-1). The Jacks opened with a tightly contested CCAA road split at UC San Diego (5-4, 5-6). Facing off against Great Northwest Athletic Conference programs, Humboldt State put together six wins to claim the tournament title.

Saint Leo makes the biggest move in the top-10 catapulting three spots to No. 4. The Lions (31-1) swept a mid-week doubleheader from Flagler (2-0, 10-1) as they continue the best season start in program history.

West Virginia Wesleyan dropped seven spots this week after a pair of losses to the University of Charleston.

The Lady Bobcats dropped from 12th to 19th.

They are currently 31-5 on the season.

Making their first appearances in the poll this year are Cameron (28-13) and Southern Arkansas (31-3) at No. 22 and No. 23, while Winona State and Texas Woman's dropped out.

The NFCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll is voted on by 16 NCAA Division II head coaches, two representing each of the eight NCAA regions. Records reflect games played through April 3.
