Swim Teams Compete at Cal (PA)
CALIFORNIA, Pa. -- The West Virginia Wesleyan men's and women's swim teams were in action this weekend at California (PA). The women's team took on both Cal (PA) and Lake Erie College. The Lady Bobcats defeated Lake Erie, 75-34, but fell to the Lady Vulcans, 72-40. The men's team only competed against Lake Erie and took home the victory, beating the Storm 130-100.
Ashley Kirkhart stood out on the women's side with a first place finish and a second place. Kirkhart took first in the 500 yard freestyle with a final time of 5:48.69 and second in the 200 yard backstroke with a final time of 2:24.35.
Hope Lima and Natalie Howard both earned second place finishes. Lima took second in the 200 yard IM with a final time of 2:27.39. Howard finished second in the 500 yard freestyle with a final time of 5:52.45.
The women's relay team of Abby Saenz, Kim Stephens, Emma Sorsaia and Tosha Saltis earned a first place finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay (1:38.51).
On the men's side, Jeff Dye led the Bobcats with two first place finishes and a second. Dye took first in the 200 yard freestyle (1:48.71) and in the 500 yard freestyle (4:49.29). He finished second in the 200 yard backstroke with a final time of 1:56.59.
Phil Fisher and Thomas Bartleman also ended the day with one first place finish apiece. Fisher took first in the 1000 yard freestyle (10:17.39) and Bartleman took first in the 100 yard freestyle (48.44).
Both the men's 200 yard medley relay team and the 200 yard freestyle relay team finished first. On the 200 yard medley team was Dye, Bartleman, Mark Mattis, and Max Garner. On the 200 yard free team was Fisher, Adam Hill, Adam Brumley, and Brandon Atkins.
Both of the Wesleyan teams return to the pool next Saturday at home against Fairmont State. The meet is scheduled to start at 1:00 pm.
