Indoor Track Finishes in Record Breaking Fashion
KENT, OH—West Virginia Wesleyan's track teams traveled to Kent State University for the annual Kent State Tuneup Iinvitational this past weekend. The men's team placed in eight different events, while the Lady Bobcats earned top spots in four events.
The fourth place finishes by Nate Edwards, Jerry Budd, and Cuylor Edgell highlighted the men's performance. Edwards finished fourth in the 5000-meter run in 15:12, just shy of the indoor school record. Freshman Jerry Budd raced to a fourth place in the 60-meter dash in 7.03, while Cuylor Edgell jumped to a fourth place in the long jump (22'1"). Senior Barry Franklin finished sixth in the 3000 (8:44) and set a new school-record in the mile with a time of 4:17.70.
Freshman Zach Shreve placed seventh in 300-meter hurdles (41.05) and an eighth place time in the 60-meter hurldes (8.46). Budd, Edgell, Corey Waybright, and Nathan Whitacre finished seventh overall (3:28.6) as junior Eric Myers placed eighth in the shot put with a toss of 52'4".
On the women's side, juniors Ashli Knotts and Kandis Castelli along with senior Morganne Bennett were the individual place winners. Knotts' 800 time of 2:16.51 was good for second place and a new school record for indoor. Castelli finished third in the 300-hurdles (47.09), while Bennett broke her own school record in the 60-hurdles (7th- 9.17). The final place came from the 4x400 relay team of Knotts, Rana Conneway, Gretchen Lantz, and Katie Roberts (6th- 4:10.89).
Wesleyan's track teams return to action on March 2-3 at the University of North Florida Invitational.
