Charlotte, N.C. -- Six different West Virginia Wesleyan athletes placed in the top ten this weekend at the prestigious UNC-Charlotte 49er Invitational. The event has long been a staple of the early track season in the East. There were 40 teams in the large meet.

Wesleyan competed against league rival Wheeling at UNCC, while Concord and Notre Dame squared off at the nearby Wake Forest Invitational. West liberty and Charleston also competed this weekend.
"Each program is starting to get their people qualified in their respective areas, and people are also still hiding some cards...it makes this time of year fun," Wesleyan head coach Jesse Skiles said.
Freshman javelin thrower Tyler Donati led the Bobcats with a sterling second place finish. His toss of 58.87m (193'2") hit the NCAA Provisional mark. Junior Zach Shreve was the third collegian in the 110-high hurdles with a time of 14.79. Junior Aaron Estep placed sixth in the 3000-steeplechase in 9:42.
Sophomore Amber Stewart placed eighth in the heptathlon with a personal best of 3,826 points. She was followed closely by freshman Lauren Cvechko who scored 3,789 points. Freshman Naomi Underwood placed ninth in the 800 with a time of 2:15.88. Cvechko and Underwood's mark were the highest openers for those events in program history.
This week, Wesleyan hosts their first home meet of the year- Visiting programs include Robert Morris, Bethany, Glenville, and Alderson-Broaddus.
