Coach Mike Rogers is entering his second season as the leader of the Lady Bobcats Golf Program. In 2010-11, under his direction, the Lady Bobcats posted a 40-29 record and recorded the first ever team victory in school history, winning the Washington and Jefferson Southpointe Invitational in Washington, PA.  “It was a great first season, but we need to continue to build on what we began this past season. There will be no sneaking up on anyone this year.”

Rogers, a Buckhannon native, played his high school golf for Buckhannon-Upshur High School where in 1980, 81 and 82 he helped the Buccaneer Golf Team make West Virginia High School golf history by becoming the first team to win 3 consecutive state championships.  In those three seasons, the Buccaneer Golf Team amassed a record of 223 wins against only 3 losses. As a result, the 1982 B-UHS Golf Team was inducted into the Buckhannon-Upshur High School Hall of Fame in September 2010.

Following graduation in 1982, Mike went on to play golf for the Pioneers of Marietta (OH) College where he was team captain his junior and senior years.  Rogers received his bachelor’s degree from Marietta in 1986 and earned a masters degree in business administration from West Virginia Wesleyan in 1988.

Aside from the duties as the Head Coach of the Women’s Golf Program at Wesleyan, Rogers owns and operates Riverbend Golf Club in Buckhannon. He is a member of the PGA of America where he has been named 4 times to the President’s Council on Growing the Game.  Rogers is also the Secretary of the West Virginia Chapter of the Tri-State Section of the PGA.  He is also the Co-Chair of the WVPGA Junior Golf Committee.

Coach Rogers was named the WVPGA’s Apprentice Player of the Year in 2000 and served as the Chairman of the WVIAC Men’s Golf Coaches Association in 2001, while coaching at Davis and Elkins.  Rogers will assume the Chairmanship of the WVIAC Women’s Golf Coaches Association beginning in the fall of 2011.
