Twelve Score in 23-6 Lacrosse Win Over Sweet Briar

BUCKHANNON – Twelve players got into the scoring act for the West Virginia Wesleyan lacrosse team as they easily handed the Sweet Briar College Vixens today in a non-conference contest at Ross Field.

The Lady 'Cats won a 23-6 decision, which was their best offensive output of the season.

The win improved the Lady 'Cats of head coach Kaitlin Feeney to 3-4 on the season.

Wesleyan trailed after a minute of action by a 2-0 score, but Wesleyan answered with four goals over the next four minutes.

Natalie Schaffner (pictured) put Wesleyan on the board at the 28:38 mark and 20 seconds later, Kim Lubic scored to deadlock the game at 2-2.

Madison Duvall gave Wesleyan a 3-2 lead at the 27:56 mark and then two minutes later, Darla Quevedo upped the Lady Bobcat advantage to 4-2.

Sweet Briar trimmed the lead to 4-3, but Wesleyan scored the next 10 goals to take a 14-3 lead at the intermission.

Wesleyan tallied the first six goals of the second half as they opened up a 20-3 lead with 17 minutes remaining.

The two teams traded goals the rest of the way as Wesleyan won by 17.

Lubic, Schaffner, Duvall and Caitlyn Baicar all had three goals for Wesleyan while Quevedo, Haley McGuffin and Madison Nock each had two.

Nock played the first half in the net to earn the win. She turned away one shot.

Lauren Granville played the second half in goal and made two saves.

Wesleyan will return to action next Saturday as they host Roberts Wesleyan at 1 p.m.
