SOUTH EUCLID (Ohio) – Katie Kennedy scored the game-winning goal with 4:34 remaining in the second half as the West Virginia Wesleyan lacrosse team picked up a huge 10-9 road win in their Mountain East Conference opener today with the Notre Dame College Falcons.
The win improved head coach Kaitlin Feeney's squad to 4-5 overall and 1-0 in the MEC.
Kim Lubic put Wesleyan on the scoreboard first with a goal just 34 seconds into the game.
Notre Dame scored the next two goals to take a 2-1 advantage, but Wesleyan scored the next five.
Lubic scored her second goal of the game at the 17:15 mark and Kennedy tallied her first goal of the game with 8:28 remaining in the opening half to treat Wesleyan to a 6-2 lead.
Notre Dame scored the half's final goal as Wesleyan took a 6-3 lead into the intermission.
Notre Dame controlled the first 15 minutes of the second half as they scored five of the first six goals as they grabbed an 8-7 lead.
Quevedo tied the game with a goal at the 13:10 mark with the assist going to Caitlyn Baicar.
Halie Taylor scored an unassisted goal for Notre Dame just 30 seconds later to return the lead to the Falcons, at 9-8.
Natalie Schaffner scored the game-tying goal at the 10:28 mark to make it a 9-9 contest.
Kennedy gave Wesleyan the win with her unassisted goal six minutes later.
Lubic paced Wesleyan with two goals, six ground balls, one draw control and three caused turnovers.
Schaffner also had two goals, two ground galls, seven draw controls and two caused turnovers.
Quevedo, Antonelli and Kenney each had two goals for the Lady Bobcats.
Wesleyan will return home this Sunday when they host Wheeling Jesuit in an MEC contest at 1 p.m.
