Schaffner Named MEC Lacrosse Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT – West Virginia Wesleyan's Natalie Schaffner is the Mountain East Conference Offensive Player of the Week, while Shepherd's Courtney Schweigerath is the league's Defensive Player of the Week. 

Schaffner, a sophomore from Severn, Md., led the Lady Bobcats on offense as the team clinched a berth in this week's MEC Tournament. She netted six goals, including what turned out to be the game-winner, and also had four draw controls and a ground ball in a 16-5 win over Urbana.

Schwiegerath, a junior from Frederick, Md., had one goal, four ground balls, three caused turnovers and three draw controls in Shepherd's win over UVa-Wise on Saturday. She helped key a Shepherd defense that limited UVa-Wise to only two goals in the second half.
