SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The West Virginia Wesleyan women's soccer team won their 21st consecutive regular season game as they opened the 2016 campaign with a 1-0 non-conference victory over Slippery Rock University today at James Egli Field.
Wesleyan wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard as Laura Hill put in a corner kick past Slippery Rock goalie Kylie Downs just 94 seconds into the game.
The goal would turn out to be the game-winner as neither team could score during the next 88 minutes of action.
Freshman Chelsea Hubner made her first collegiate start in goal for Wesleyan and turned away three shots helping the Lady Bobcats post the shutout.
Wesleyan owned a 10-7 lead in shots and a 5-3 advantage in shots-on-goal.
Slippery Rock dropped to 0-2 on the season.
The Lady Bobcats (1-0) will now play Fairmont State on the road this Tuesday in a Mountain East Conference game.
The game will start at 4 p.m.
