Women Beat FSU in Dual Swim Meet; Men Take Second

FAIRMONT – The West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcat and Lady Bobcat swim teams wrapped up their regular season today with a dual meet at Fairmont State University.

The women won their finale as they beat the Lady Falcons by a 144-113 score while the men dropped a 178-80 decision.

On the women's side, both teams won seven events, but Wesleyan had more runner-up and third place finishes for their 31-point victory.

Camilla Brizzi won two events for the Lady Bobcats, taking the 100-yard butterfly (1:04.10) and the 50-yard butterfly (27.50).

Earning the other individual wins for the Lady Bobcats were Marylee Gowdy in the 50-yard backstroke (30.16), Ashton Cole in the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.53), Kimmy Culver in the 500-yard freestyle (5:42.20) and Justine Bledsoe in the 100-yard IM (1:05.84).

The lone relay win for the Lady 'Cats belonged to the foursome of Brizzi, Gowdy, Lea Kryvenchuk and Culver in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:44.18.

On the men's side, the Bobcats were denied any first places by a strong Fairmont State team.

The men did pick up nine runner-up spots.

Both teams will now be idle for 2 ½ weeks as they prepare for the four-day Appalachian Swimming Conference Championships.

They will be held Feb. 8 – 11 at Christiansburg, Va.
