Buckhannon, W.Va. -- The West Virginia Wesleyan Volleyball team competed this past weekend at Fairmont State's Falcon Fest where the Bobcats managed their first victory of the season. The Bobcats were guaranteed four matches against Seton Hill, University of Pitt-Johnstown, Winston-Salem College, and Mercyhurst, respectively.
On Friday the lady Bobcats took to the floor against a very talented Seton Hill team that managed to sweep the Bobcats 3-0. Onto the nightcap where Wesleyan drew another tough opponent in UPJ, however, squeeking out a first game victory 28-26 in a hard fought battle. Unfortunatley, Pitt-Johnstown rallied to win the next three games and earning the 3-1 win.
The next morning Wesleyan found their first victory of the season against Winston-Salem College in a hard fought five game match. The Bobcats managed 44 kills and freshman Kaitlyn Hoge helped lead the defense to 92 digs. The Bobcats started strong again winning the first set, however Winston-Salem came back to win the next two games, but the lady Bobcats stormed back winning the fourth and fifthe set to, ultimately, claim the victory.
Following the victory, the Bobcats couldn't bounce back from Mercyhurst claiming the first two sets. Wesleyan managed a game three victory but lost in the fourth to lose 3-1.
The Lady Bobcats are back in action this Friday against Slippery Rock at Shepherd for a MEC/PSAC Crossover tournament. First game is slated for noon.
