Buckhannon, W. Va. – The West Virginia Wesleyan Volleyball team completed a two day sweep of West Virginia State and UVa-Wise Friday and Saturday, respectively. The two road wins for the Bobcats push their conference record out to 7-4, one game behind third place Charleston.
In a hard fought battle on Friday evening at West Virginia State, the 'Cats managed to win the match 3-2 claiming the first, fourth, and fifth set. Wesleyan got out to an early lead and never looked back winning the first set 25-17. State would battle back in the second and third sets winning both, taking the 2-1 edge over Wesleyan. However, with their backs against the wall, the Bobcats were able to once again claw their way back in to the match, winning the fourth set 25-22. The final, and deciding, fifth set would be at a standstill, 9-9, before the 'Cats propelled ahead eventually earning the 15-11 victory, thus claiming the match 3-2.
The Bobcats were lead by attackers, Samantha Swann and Erin Bond. Swann finished with 16 kills and Bond with 14, respectively. Bond and Paulina Nottingham also added three aces on the evening to help the Bobcats.
Saturday afternoon, the Bobcats would make the trip from West Virginia State over to UVa-Wise to do battle with the Cavaliers. The 'Cats fresh off their win verse the Yellow Jackets, picked up right where they left off, earning, yet, another 3-0 decision.
The Bobcats were once again able to control the net as junior Erin Bond tallied 10 more kills on the afternoon to lead the 'Cats. Wesleyan would earn 25-19, 25-21, and 25-17 victories, respectively, to quickly make do of the Cavs. Aspen Weber would be back to her old ways, leading the 'Cats with four aces on the afternoon as well as contributing 10 digs. Senior Camblin Leonard would add six kills of her own for Wesleyan in the victory.
Wesleyan will be back at it, Tuesday, November 5th, when they host Glenville State. Game time is slated for 7pm.
