Buckhannon, W.Va. -- The Wesleyan Bobcat Volleyball team took three straight sets from the Pioneers of Glenville State Tuesday evening at Rockefeller Center earning the 3-0 victory. The Bobcats earned 25-21, 25-23, and 25-23 wins, respectively, improving their MEC record to 8-4.
Ultimately, the Pioneers (9-20, 3-10 MEC) were not able to handle the front line of Erin Bond, Samantha Swann, and Camblin Leonard for the Bobcats. Wesleyan (10-16, 8-4 MEC) came out swinging jumping out to a 10-4 lead in the first set, never really having any scares before ultimately claiming the 25-21 win.
The second and third sets had a much different feel as both teams went on momentum swinging runs that each required the other team to use a timeout. DeJane Ludoski and Shanell Sims would lead the Pioneers to a 13-11 start in the second set but the Bobcats would tie the game at 16 a piece then pull ahead with some crucial Aspen Weber serving, finishing with the 25-23 win.
The third set would be dominated early by the Pioneers as the 'Cats found themselves clawing away the entire set. Shannon Gregoreck's and Stacie Bauman's combined seven kills chimed in at the right times helping push the 'Cats forward. The resiliency of the team shined through when a strong back line compiled of Katlyn Hoge, Casey Pattyn, Courtney Browning, and Hannah Moore literally dug the team back from a 23-19 deficit to a 24-23 lead before Aspen Weber, like in the second set, would end the game with an ace, giving the Bobcats the match 25-23.
Wesleyan will retake the nets this Friday when the team travels to Shepherd. Game time is slated for 7pm.
