Lady 'Cats Tumble to UVa.-Wise, 3-1

BUCKHANNON – The West Virginia Wesleyan College volleyball team is the only Mountain East Conference blemish on the record of the UVa.-Wise Cavaliers.

The Lady 'Cats handed UVa.-Wise their only conference loss two weeks ago in Wise, but Wesleyan wasn't as fortunate in their rematch today at Rockefeller Center.

The Lady Bobcats dropped a 3-1 decision – 25-23, 19-25, 25-18 and 25-23.

Wesleyan had leads or were tied late in all four sets but wasn't able to finish three of them.

Wesleyan let the first set slip through their grasps. They were tied at 21-21 but UVa.-Wise scored four of the next six points for the 25-23 win.

Wesleyan rebounded to take the second set.

They were down early 2-0 but scored the next five points and never trailed again. Wesleyan's biggest lead was eight when they were up 13-5.

Wesleyan couldn't close out the third set after leading by a 17-14 score. UVa.-Wise ran off eight of the next nine points to take the set by seven.

The Lady Bobcats were tied 22-22 in fourth set, but again UVa.-Wise scored three of the final four points for the victory.

Stacie Baumann led the team with 14 kills while Hannah Moore and Shannon Gregorek each had eight.

Katlyn Buckland had 20 assists while Paulina Nottingham had 18 assists.

Moore had 19 digs while Lexi Walsh collected 16.

The loss dropped Wesleyan to 8-14 overall and 2-7 in the MEC.

UVa.-Wise improved to 13-10 overall and 8-1 in the MEC.

They will return to action Saturday at home against Concord at 1 p.m.
