Wesleyan Cruises Past Concord In Straight Sets

BUCKHANNON – The West Virginia Wesleyan volleyball team put together perhaps their best all-around performance today in a dominant 3-0 victory over the Concord Mt. Lions in Mountain East Conference action at Rockefeller Center.

The Lady 'Cats cruised past Concord – 25-22, 25-9 and 25-18.

Wesleyan opened up a 16-7 lead in the first set and then had to hold off Concord.

The Mt. Lions closed the gap to two at 22-20 but Wesleyan finished them off taking three of the next five points.

Wesleyan never trailed in the second set.  The Lady Bobcats built an 18 point lead at 22-4 before putting them away by the 25-9 score.

The Lady Bobcats fell behind in the third set by a 14-8 score but rallied with nine straight points to take a 17-14 lead.

Wesleyan scored the eight of the final 12 points for the win.

Hannah King and Shannon Gregorek paced Wesleyan with nine kills.

Paulina Nottingham had 24 assists while Katlyn Buckland had 17.

Hannah Moore led the team with 14 digs while Lexi Walsh had 10.

The win improved Wesleyan to 9-15 overall and 3-7 in the MEC.

The Lady 'Cats are currently ninth in the MEC as the top eight teams advance to the play-offs. They are a half game behind Urbana for that final play-off spot.

Wesleyan will return to action Friday when they visit the University of Charleston.

The match will tip-off at 7 p.m.
