BUCKHANNON – The West Virginia Wesleyan volleyball team took care of business today as they swept the visiting UVa.-Wise Cavaliers in straight sets – 25-23, 25-17, 25-16.
The win was the third in the last four games for head coach Ashley Ziegle and her Lady Bobcat team as they improved to 6-13 overall and 2-4 in the MEC.
Wesleyan trailed by a 20-19 score in the first set but a pair of kills by Hannah King treated the Lady Bobcats to a 21-20 lead.
With the game tied at 22-22, a UVa.-Wise service error and a kill by Ebonie Hicks gave Wesleyan a 24-22 lead.
An attack error by Wesleyan made it a 24-23 contest but a kill by Hannah Moore secured the two-point victory for Wesleyan.
In the second set, Wesleyan jumped into a 6-0 lead and never looked back.
A kill by Hicks gave Wesleyan their largest lead of the second set at 22-11.
Wesleyan never trailed in the third set.
A quick 3-0 lead turned into a 12-6 advantage for Wesleyan following a kill by Stacie Baumann.
UVa.-Wise closed the gap to 19-15 but Wesleyan took six of the next seven points with Baumann ending it with a kill.
Baumann ended the day with a team high 10 kills while Hannah King had nine.
Paulina Nottingham had 28 assists and three aces.
Lexi Walsh led the team with 19 digs.
Following two outings in a 14-hour time period, the Lady 'Cats will now be idle until Friday when they visit West Liberty for a conference clash starting at 7 p.m.
