Volleyball Lady 'Cats Drop Straight Sets to Lock Haven

SOUTH EUCLID (Ohio) – The West Virginia Wesleyan volleyball team dropped their first match of the Notre Dame Invitational Friday afternoon at the Murphy Gymnasium in South Euclid, Ohio.

The Lady Bobcats fell to Lock Haven University, a solid foe from the PSAC, 16-25, 21-25, 21-25.

Wesleyan's best opportunity came in the second set, when the teams were tied on nine different occasions, and the Lady Bobcats held early leads of 11-9 and 12-10. With the score tied at 18-18, Lock Haven scored four consecutive points on serve to control the set and the match.

Hannah King led the offense with nine kills, followed by Leah Blend and Ebonie Hicks with four each.

Setters Hannah Jones and Mackenzie Wheeler each recorded 10 assists, while the duo of Emily Doyle and Hannah Bradford led the backline defense with 11 and 10 digs respectively. 

Wesleyan fell to 2-7 with the loss while Lock Haven improved to 6-4. 

Coach Nancy Wheeler's squad plays two more PSAC opponents on Saturday afternoon; facing Indiana (Pa.) at 3:30 p.m. and Mercyhurst at 5:30 p.m.
